Shrub, Two

So, here's a question for Michael Crichton fans: if you own Travels, turn to the Bonaire chapter, after the dermatitis incident (page 127 in my edition). In the next paragraph, he writes, "In more than ten years of living..." Earlier in the chapter, he mentions diving for over ten years, and I wonder if it's meant to say "...ten years of diving..." here. There are a number of words in the book like this, where I wonder if the editor did a poor job with this book, or I'm just doing what I always do - second-guess the author.
